Programme Overview

Certificate in Journalism and Media Studies is specifically designed for those interested in pursuing a Diploma or Degree in Journalism and any area of the communication sequences. It seeks to build a strong foundation that can help the trainee build up on as he/she seeks other higher platforms of learning. In addition the trainee can be able to work in a media house and other communication based office.

Target Group

  • Trainees who have a desire to progress in journalism or any communication sequence.
  • Studentsfromanydisciplinewhowishtogetknowledgeoncommunicationorotherswhoarecurrently working in other occupations but wish to learn about media procedures.
  • It also serves as a prerequisite to pursuing degree in mass communication or degree in journalism programme in any locally accredited University.

Entry Requirements

  • Be a holder of K.C.S.E with a minimum aggregate of D Plain
  • Pass in Artisan Level where applicable;
  • Any other equivalent qualification as approved by KNEC

Programme Duration and Structure

This certificate course shall be offered three (3)terms.

Expected learning outcomes

  • Be able to apply the knowledge gained either in a new communication field or improve on built professional career.
  • Develop capacity to improve respective media departments and with strong media ethics.
  • Gain in-depth understanding of media, with a strong bias on the Kenyan Media History, thereby building a strong foundation for future communication fields such as Print or Electronic Media.
