Zetech Inks deal with IBM to enhance IT education
In response to the demands of technology and education, Zetech University has entered a partnership with multinational IT firm IBM to build capacity and skills set among students. Through this collaboration, students, faculty and the community will access interactive learning opportunities to develop skills in emerging technologies, to meet global standards.
The partnership will see the establishment of an IBM Skills Academy in the Zetech student and faculty fraternity where trainees will be trained to utilize leading edge, advanced computing technologies to address local and national challenges.
The Skills lab, an Academic Technical Certification Program for universities, will further assist students to prepare for a rewarding career in IT through building local capability in line with international standards.
Commenting on the two-year partnership, University Vice Chancellor Prof. Njenga Munene noted that the collaboration will serve to advance the higher education system in the area of IT and better align the University’s curriculum to the needs and trends of the industry. “IBM is a strong partner who fits into our commitment to be a centre of excellence in training, research and innovation in science and technology,” said Prof. Munene, adding, “this collaboration will enhance our training and equip students with the capacity to excel locally and internationally as we strive to be one of the biggest private universities in Kenya.”
During the training, IBM will provide students with 24/7 free access to an on campus ‘Educational Cloud Environment’“, where they will get learning material, tutorials and relevant content to get hands-on insights on the latest technologies for certification; additionally, the students will access the IBM Educational Portal to interact with course content, assessment, quizzes and tests. The institution’s role will be to ensure students enroll and have the right training environment to effectively implement these tools.
With a strong reputation for successful scientific research, the agreement will also see IBM offer expertise to faculty to use the latest technology in curriculum and research.
