Zetech University today graduated over 1400 students in various disciplines at a ceremony held at the University Thika Road campus. The institution conferred the second cohort of degree students since attaining a Letter of Interim Authority and awarded diplomas to graduates, charging them to use technology for development and entrepreneurship.

This year’s ceremony, Themed Developing technopreneurial human capital for sustainable development, focused on the impact of ICT on sustainable development. Commenting on the graduation, Chancellor Prof. Susan Alfano Nkinyangi congratulated the graduates for successful completing their studies. “Today’s graduation is a testament of the growth we have realised and we are proud to release a skilled workforce who will effectively contribute to sustainable development in Kenya and beyond.” Prof. Nkinyangi said.

Over the years, the varsity has grown its undergraduate student base, boosted by the government of Kenya’s 2016 move to have private universities admit students through the Kenya University and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) that has seen the university admit hundreds of students through the initiative. The varsity further expanded its course offering growing its degree programmes to nine from the two it started with 2014 to meet increased demand.

During the event, the University also inaugurated Prof. Njenga Munene as Vice Chancellor after he successfully completed his probation period since joining in April this year. During the colourful induction, the Zetech fraternity congratulated him on the achievement and challenged him to train students to become change engines in society.
Prof. Munene, who pledged to faithfully carry out the responsibilities entrusted to him in keeping with the Kenya Constitution 2010; Universities Act (42) 2012. A highly regarded scholar, he has a PhD in Clinical Studies from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Science in Clinical Studies and a Bachelor of Veterinary Studies from the same University. He also pursued Advanced Studies in Protozoan Diseases at the Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (Japan).

Additionally, the ceremony saw the institution unveil instruments of Governance and symbols of authority including the University Mace, the 2018-2022 Strategic Plan, and statutes, designed to enhance the academic experience through quality training, advanced research and student development.
