Zetech teams register a stunning performance in weekend matches

It was an exhilarating weekend of sporting action and notable victories as the Zetech University teams took charge of the various tournaments they participate in.

The Zetech Sparks silenced the Storms an impressive 63-50 recovering from a narrow loss against Cooperative Bank in the last Kenya premier basketball league game played at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi. Led by team captain Lucy Mbithe, the ladies keenly maintained the lead in the intense game amidst cheers by delighted fans, after kicking off with a 17-9 lead in the first quarter.

Approving the win, team Coach Maurice Obilo noted that the national league is intensely competitive and it was good for the Sparks to record a deserved win, as they adequately train for the upcoming meetings.
In the men’s camp, the Zetech Titans completed the ladies win with a 60-50 defeat over the Lion in a tense match on Saturday at Nyayo Stadium. Team captain Jeremy Opiyo who secured 28 points in the outing led the team to victory, recovering from a 27- 30 score at half-time

Commenting on the results, team coach Job Munene lauded the gents for maintain form, encouraging them to target additional wins now that they are playing in the top flight league.
“This is a good result and is motivating to the players as they adjust to tougher team in the KPL,” Munene said, adding, “we are upbeat about upcoming games and look forward to what’s ahead.”

In the football field, a vibrant Zetech Titans FC side punished Kenafric 3-0 in a thrilling performance displayed in Limuru. The team, which currently trains in Limuru, appreciated the outcome of the game noting that they are keen on securing more wins as the league progresses.

Meanwhile, in the FKF Regionals, the Zetech provincial team fell to a 1-0 loss against Gatunyu Sharks in a match played at Giatutu. The team coach noted that the squad would work on the weakness realized in the match and would seal any gaps, to work towards a win for the coming weekend.

Commenting on the weekend action, Sports Coordinator Alfred Muli hinted at plans to develop a strong female football team, “plans are underway to develop a ladies team to represent the university. We are optimistic about the uptake by interested players and we will unveil the side very soon.”

Indeed, the Zetech sports sides continue to maintain form in the tournaments they take part in and we are on the lookout for many more wins.
