It is said, and rightly so, that we rise by lifting others. Moved by the need for a better community, the university sports teams this past weekend engaged in a CSR drive, in partnership with Kaka Empire. The teams, football and basketball, joined the Kaka Empire youthful team in inspiring lives at Christ Chapel Children’s Home, stationed in Huruma.
Leading the ladies and gents in the drive, Sports Team Manager and Marketing Executive Wycliffe Sirengo was appreciative of the gesture and proud of the sports men and women for spending a day with the less fortunate. He joined the team in washing clothes, cleaning up the dorms and kitchen, preparing and serving a meal with the kids, as well as taking time to interact one on one with the members of the Christ Chapel family.
The team engaged with the Christ Chapel family by diving into duty to ensure that the members of the home enjoy a more comfortable weekend while donating resources to enhance their lives.
Also present was Kenyan hip hop artist King Kaka, who heads Kaka Empire, who encouraged the team to make a difference in the lives of the kids and led them in giving funds for the purchase of household items for the Huruma home.
Noting that young people have an important role to play in community services, Head of Communication, Corporate and Student Affairs at Zetech University, Moses Maina, lauded the teams for heeding to the call to participate and underscored the significance of giving back and inspiring lives,
“I am proud of the commitment shown in this initiative and proud of football and basketball teams for understanding the place of service in the community; as we are plan additional CSR drives, I am confident that these students will step up as they begin to comprehend the importance of community work and making a difference in someone’s life.” Moses said.
He further reiterated the commitment of the institution in community engagement, especially after penning an MOU with Kaka Empire that includes more involvement of the youth in CSR activities.
Commenting on the drive, Zetech Titans Captain and the varsity Entertainment and Sports Representative Joshua Kisali expressed how proud he was of the teams for taking time to take part in the worthwhile initiative and shared the students’ expectations for other similar programmes.
