Bachelor of Science in Information Technology student Kennedy Muthaura is a proud young man, following his excellent performance in the celebrated Huawei ICT Competition 2018-2019 Southern Africa, where he beat over 4000 students from 40 Universities in Kenya, to represent the country in the Africa edition held in South Africa.
Almost 30,000 students from over 100 universities in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Angola, South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, Botswana and Mauritius participated in the competition that tests the trainees on the latest ICT technologies including cloud computing, artificial intelligence, mobile networks and big data.
Divided into various groups, the students were tasked to approach the set questions together with a team from Tanzania and Nigeria winning the top prize while the team from Kenya and Angola managed to emerge the second best. The top team will visit China to compete against international students from all over the world in the final contest while the runners up were gifted with various benefits following their excellent performance.
Muthaura, accompanied by Zetech Head of Centre for Professional Certification Samuel Kinuthia, who was awarded the Best Lecturer in the Huawei ICT Academy in October 2018, celebrated the experience, appreciating the institution for the invaluable support throughout the preparation process and the competitions,
“I would not trade this experience for anything. Through the partnership, I enrolled for the Huawei training and have benefited from a paid internship at Huawei Technologies, the latest gadgets from the firm and a chance to mentor and encourage my peers to go after their dreams.” said Muthaura. He further thanked Mr. Kinuthia and the leadership team for the continued effort to expose students to opportunities beyond the country.
