Zetech Decides- Students Voice their choice in 2019 Elections

On Tuesday 12th March, students gathered in large numbers at their various campuses to vote in their students leaders to represent them in the 2019-2020 period. Bachelor of Business Administration and Management student Duncan Owino was voted in as Chairperson of the Zetech University Students Association (ZUSA); he will be deputized by business counterpart Sylvia Wanjiru.

In the heated election, that came one day after the Zetech debate that feature the aspirants and provided them the opportunity to present their manifestos, the incoming Chairperson appreciated his comrades, vowing to the students effectively.

The other elected officials who were voted in are:Simon Onyonyi as Secretary General, Karen Waithera as Academics Representative, Newton Kitru as Sports and Entertainment representative while Teresia Wanjiru will be in charge of Social Welfare.

Zetech University student has her finger marked with indelible ink after voting

The voting process began at 8:00am as the Electoral Commission and aspirants arrived and prepared for the elections which started at 9:00am. The process, secured and well-coordinated, involved students coming in to the voting centre, checking in their names from the delegates list after which they were given ballot papers; once they had voted,the officials marked their index fingers with indelible ink.

During the day, the DVC Academics, Student Affairs, Research and Extension, Dr. Alice Njuguna and Moses Maina, Executive Director, Corporate Affairs passed by the auditorium at the Thika Road campus to ensure the process was free and fair, “We are glad to see that the electoral commissioners handling the process well and that students are satisfied with the process. I am impressed with the overview.” said Dr. Njuguna. She noted that she was impressed that the few complaints raised in the early hours of they were resolved.

The tallying process began at 3pm but extended till 8:45pm as the fraternity waited for votes from the town campuses. Aspirants, agents and observers were present during the counting process to ensure that the process was fair. At the end of tallying process, the winners were announced and celebrated.
“We are all looking forward to serving the students and ensuring that they get the best experience at Zetech University,” said Duncan Owino, the newly elected ZUSA Chairperson.
