About the Department:

The Centre for Professional Certification (CPC) department deals with internal and external certification, allowing current and incoming students with an opportunity to enroll for skill-based courses that can set them apart in the market. The courses are available to trainees who want to build their knowledge on skills required in a digital expanding society. The courses range between 2 weeks to 6 months, and the areas of specialization cover IT, design and financial accounting. The target market includes form four leavers who want to get a head start on learning and professionals eager to sharpen their skills.


  1. Ensure learners acquire the necessary skills after training in order to effectively implement them in the market
  2. Help learners identify specific areas of specialization
  3. Produce students who are adequately equipped with skills usable in the market

Head of Department

The Department is headed by Samuel Kinuthia who holds a Bachelor of Applied Computer Science from Kisii University and anAdvanced Diploma in Computer engineering fromAphaxCollege. He also holdsCisco CertifiedNetwork Associate (CCNA), ICDLCertifications, HCNA, HCIP, and other Cyber Ops. He also heads the Huawei ICT Academy and was awarded the Best Lecturer in the country during the HuaweiICT Competition 2018-2019 Southern Africa.

Ms Windows- Gain the skills to expertly install, configure and manage Windows OS or empower users to confidently navigate the interface with Windows training courses.

Ms Power Point- Learn how to design and deliver compelling, professional presentations with PowerPoint training courses.

Ms Word- Learn how to create, edit, proof and format documents in Microsoft Word. Get hands-on Microsoft Word training to accelerate your skills with this industry-standard application.

Concepts of IT -learn about different parts of a computer, as well as some of the key concepts of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), such as those relating to networks and security

  • Ms Excel- Here you will be trained from the basic to the most advance level in the version 2010.

Internet- This module trains in the use of electronic mail and information retrieval.

  • Ms Access- Students will gain a working knowledge of Microsoft Acccess 2016 and including how to create and manage databases
  • Ms Outlook- students learn to create and edit professional-looking emails, maintain calendars and schedule tasks.

Web Design Specialist Course Part 1 and 2

ICDL is a comparison course that covers seven modules, designed to discover the key concepts of computing. It’s practical applications and their use in the workplace and society in general. Auto CAD- this is a comprehensive 2 and 3D drawing software that uses lines to come up with complex structures and drawings. Its most powerful feature is that it can generate any kind of drawing be it architectural or mechanical.50hrs



For architects, interior designers and quantity surveyors who wish to add flair into their work or students wishing to get into these professions. It is suited for mechanical drawings. 50hrs

Department Activities:

Our trainees are encouraged throughout their time of study through activities e.g.  Hackfest, where they can learn, network and engage with peers. In addition, they are allowed to make use of equipped computer labs at designated times so as to research and practice their skills. They also benefit from specialised career talks and can join the varsity ICT Club.


The IT Faculty hosts an interactive ICT Club which allows active students with to participate in insightful talks with IT experts, excursions to expose students to the real world of IT practice, Boot camps to build creativity and boost innovation among eager learners as well as monthly engagements to build on knowledge gained in class.
