Zetech University conferred the varsity’s first group of Degree students, following the receipt of the award letter of interim authority to operate as university in 2014, at a graduation ceremony held at the university main campus.

This year’s ceremony, where 2481 students graduated after successfully competing courses in ICT, engineering, business, media and communication, hospitality and tourism, and development studies, focused on the impact of academic excellence on leadership and development.

During the ceremony, the University Chancellor Prof. Susan Alfano Nkinyangi encouraged the graduates to use the knowledge gained to create a better world, highlighting the university’s commitment to putting up additional infrastructure projects to enhance students’ experience,

“Today’s graduation is a testament of the growth we have realised as a private university in this country,” she said, adding,” we have in place a strategy to build on infrastrructure projects in collaboration with various partners to ensure our learners are thoroughly equipped for the market place.”

On his part, varsity Vice Chancellor Prof. Edwin Wamukoya emphasised that the Varsity’s drive to provide access to quality higher education to students from Kenya and beyond has stood firm over the years. He noted that in keeping with the demand for quality higher education, the university has plans in place to incorporate additional science-based programmes so as to produce students who are innovative and solution driven.

”This year, we are proud to confer our inaugural group of degree graduates in Business and ICT programmes, as we cement plans to build our portfolio of science and technology courses designed to meet market demands. ” said Prof. Wamukoya.

In this line, the institution has embarked on the addition of two Degree programmes set to be launched next year, following approval by the Commission for University Education.

Over the years, the varsity has grown its undergraduate student base, boosted by the government’s 2016 move to have private universities admit students through KUCCPS; 470 students were placed in 2016 while 635 students were placed at the university this year, through the initiative.

In this year’s ceremony, Chief Guest Joe Muganda, Group CEO, Nation Media Group, who presided over the graduation, encouraged the graduating class to dream big and actively take part in advancing economic and leadership development in the world.

Further, the ceremony featured an award session sponsored by various partners who awarded the best performing students in academics and extra-curricular activities, to celebrate their exemplary work and motivate current students, with Mercy Opata Imai receiving the overall best award.
