The unforgettable 2016 graduation ceremony, characterized by celebration and excitement, took place on 25th November 2016 at the varsity graduation square, located along Thika Road. The event was graced by Hon. Sammy Itemere, Permanent Secretary (Broadcasting and Telecommunication), Ministry of ICT.
Impressed by the motto of the institution ‘Invent your Future, PS Itemere was glad to congratulate the graduating students and share words of wisdom to propel them to the next level, “The University’s motto ‘Invent your Future’ is an inspirational slogan for learners keen on standing out. I urge the graduands not to forget that maxim instilled them because it is motivational.”
He further shared his appreciation of Zetech’s amazing journey that started 16 years ago, describing it as a story of growth and inspiration that reminds the world that nothing is impossible.
Applauding them on the 2016 graduation ceremony, the PS commended the varsity for embracing digital technology in its curriculum because ICT is at the center of development globally and, Kenya is a regional leader in technology as the government is working very hard through various projects to attain a digital literate nation.
He detailed the upcoming Projects of the government in matter ICT, designed to empower youth to create jobs following worrying statistics of unemployment in the country.
“The Ministry of ICT in partnership with the Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs, the Ministry of Education and partners in the private sector have set up the ‘Ajira Digital Programme’ to bridge the gap between skills demand and lack of jobs; I call on the graduating students to take advantage of this programme as they step out into the job market.”
He added that this programme is introducing young people to online work and provides the tools, training and mentorship needed for young people to work and earn an income.
Appreciating the University management team led by the Founder and Chairman Eng. Ken Mbiuki, the PS also took time to sit down with the Board and enjoyed a tour of the main complex, that was launched by the President of Kenya Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta in 2015. PS Itemere also received a special portrait of ICT CS Joe Mucheru crafted by a graduating student Joash Maima, presented after the conferment of the graduates.
Indeed, the graduation occasion was one that the graduands will not forget, having being encouraged to find their footing in the world of opportunities and having interacted with personnel who can mentor and guide them in life.
